Entertaining beardies. And what about cats and dogs?

britbiker Dec 10, 2004 11:09 AM

I have to work during the day and my kids are at school. As a result, my beardies do not get much stimulation during the day. Any suggestions on how to keep them entertained? I know it sounds weird, but would leaving a TV on interest them at all? I know they can't understand it, but would the visuals get their attention?
Also, is it too stressful to have dogs and cats around a beardies cage? Of course, the dogs and cats could not get in to eat them, but would it be stressful to the dragons to look out their cage window and see a cat face looking in? Or would they grow use to it?
And what's better, to have a completely glass structure for the beardies (like an aquarium), or a solid structure with only a glass front? I know solid walls give snakes more confidence so I'm wondering if the beardies would like it better too.
Thanks for helping a newcomer!

my beardies entertain my cat! I think that dogs do cause stress to beardies as they are natural preditors of them in the wild.

My beardie seems quite content to lay around and do nothing all day. She doesn't seem to notice the cat, who likes sleeping on top of the cage, and the dog pays no attention to her at all, unless she is out. My cage is only glass on front, with wood sides, it does give them some security. Oh, and the bottom 7 inches of the front are also wood, otherwise she sratches the glass and the noise drives me crazy.

I have six cats adn occasionally thye will sop by to watch a little dragon TV, but my beardies don't seem to care.

Funny story, when I adopted my first beardie nine years ago, my cat Horton stayed in the room and watched the dragon NON-STOP for three days. We had to bring his litterbox, food and water into the room. Sometimes he would fall asleep in front of the cage and if Irwin moved Horton would jump up and continue watching like he didn't want to miss anything! It was hysterical! You could not get him to leave the room!
