Urgent! Need help changing from live food to frozen food

JD4040 Dec 10, 2004 03:00 PM

I have 4 gray bands that were eating live pinkies and live lizards. Need help changing them to eat unfrozen pinkies. Any help to convert them to thawed pinkies would greatly be appreciated.I have no means to get live food for them and do not want to lose them. Need any help I can get as soon as possible

Warm your thawed mice in in hot water until yor mice are warm. Wiggle the mouse in front of your snakes face with some hemostats or tongs. You could also use a stick and nudging the mouse a little to make movement. Try not to let the snake notice you. You want the snake to pay attention to the food item.

This has worked for me. After a while it will recognize the thawed mouse as food.

The idea about using the hemos to move the thawed pinkies almost always works, but if it doesnt you might try putting the snakes into a small container (like a deli cup) with the pinkies and leave them in there with it for a few hours. Sometimes a snake will eat the pinkies just to get them out of there space. You shouldnt have much problem getting them to convert over to pre killed food. The ones that are only taking lizards however may present more of a challenge, once they eat a lizard thats what they will always want, at least thats what Ive always found.

GOOD LUCK
