Out of all the RES produced each year, 1/8 of those are amels or pastels. Think about it, how will amels be produced if there are no adult amels???? That's right, there has to be adults, and there are. I don't see pictures of them commonly either, but they are out there, I've seen probably only 50 pictures of them in the last 5 years. Being a color morph will affect turtles in limited ways, if you take care of a hatchling red eared slider, provide it with a basking light, a UV light, clean water, a 10 gallon tank and feed it as much as it can eat everyday, within 2 years you will have a 5 inch turtle.

Except for the fact that a turtle should not be 5 inches after only two years!! The rule of thumb is an inch a year...much faster than that and you run the risk of growth defects, bone/shell problems, etc, for the rest of its life!

definitely should NOT feed the turtle as much as it should eat. you should ONLY feed the turtle enough protein (aka pellets) that would fit into it's head per day (for the first 2 years, or 2 inches) and then those pellets should be supplemented with greens (collard greens, dandelion greens, lettuce, etc.). you definitely do NOT want to overfeed your turtle because this could case defects and inner organ problems when it's body outgrows it's organs. This is what causes these animals to die so young... when people dont take care of them and cause them to be obese!

I had an albino baby a few years back. It was doing great and then one day I found it dead on its basking spot. I think the thing was too stupid to get back in the water before it overheated. Cute little gal though.
