RTB help needed

Ben_C Dec 10, 2004 04:12 PM

Hey all,
my RTB was lost for 2.5 months in my bedroom. I just found him earlier this week and tried to feed it...it will not eat! I've tried live rats (small), live pinkie rats, frozen pinkie rats, live mice, brained pinkie rats, F/T mouse... it appears interested at first, but will not strike and quickly gives up...it seems a little afraid/intimidated. ANybody else had problems like this before? If so, what did you do to solve the problem? Do you think he just needs time?
Your help is very much appreciated!

If your animal has had no access to water it could be very dehydrated by now so it may need to be rehydrated before it can handle or will desire any prey items. Initially, smaller than usual food items should be offered since the digestive tract has not been active and a smaller meal will be easier to handle. If feeding a live prey item your snake will be less intimidated and more likely to take it but again it most likely would only eat after being rehydrated first. Two and a half months is not an outrageously long period for a snake to go without food depending on the state of health and size it was prior to being lost. I have an adult female ball that goes off feed religiously each Winter for about five months and then suddenly resumes eating with no ill effects.
