from some brief research I have come up with this. Correct me if you know different. feel free to add any additional info you may have.

All Tegus belong to:
1) Order: Squamata.
2) Infrorder: Scincomorpha.
3) Family: Teiidae
4) Genus: Tupinambis
There are presently four recognized and one unrecognized species.
1) Colombian Black and White Tegu (Tupinambis Teguixin) Their range covers Colombia exclusively Adults can reach 4.5’ in length.
2) Argentine Black and White Tegu (Tupinambis Merianea). Their range covers Eastern Argentina, Uruguay, Bolivia and Southern Brazil. Adults can reach 5’ in length.
3) Gold Tegu (Tupinambis Nigropunctatus) Their range overlaps the Colombian Black and White Tegus range in Colombia and countries such as Ecuador, Venezuela, Guyana and Suriname. Adults can reach 4’ in length.
4) Argentine Red Tegu (Tupinambis Rufescens). Their range covers Western Argentina , Paraguay and most of Brazil. Red Tegus seem to prefer hotter and drier regions more than the other Tegu species. Reds are the least tolerant of cold temperatures. Adults can reach 4’ in length.
The unrecognized species is the Blue Tegu (Tupinambis Teguixin sp.). Adults can reach 3.5’ in length.
All Tegus are from South America. It is the only continent that they inhabit in the wild.

The blue tegu origin discussion was moved.

The information you posted is not documented, and parts of the orginal sources were quite dated. I think this is the information you are looking for...
