New Motley Ghost Corn and handling question....

cpdavngr Dec 10, 2004 07:22 PM

Welp, this one's my first and I'm happy to say she seems to be doing great! I picked her up at the Pittsburgh Herp show about a month ago. She's finally starting to get used to me handling her (she was a bit skiddish at first, but now I think she loves to be handled. ) I do have a question, however. Now that she's used to being handled by me, how would I go about letting any of my friends handle her safely? I always use an anti-bacterial hand soap which has a bit of a fragrance before I handle her which my friends would use as well. Any suggestions or am I just worrying too much? :P Anyway, here's a pic. It was taken right before she shed so the colors aren't too vibrant. Thanks!

Pretty snake. I'm no expert but I wouldn't see a problem with your friends handling her as long as you were there supervising. Whenever I let someone else handle our snakes I always hold them for a few minutes first and let them smell my friend so they get used to it. If the snake seems ok then they can hold him, if not then oh well. Then again, maybe I just have easygoing snakes. We picked up two of our three at the herp show in Monroeville (is that the Pittsburgh one you're talking about...?) last month, an '04 and an '00 both male. Looking forward to it again this weekend.

Yep, that was the one. I got a snake and my friend got an Australian Velvet Gecko. Thanks for the info!

It is also nice to see more people from my area on here. I usually hit that show a few times a year. I live about 45 minutes from there. In the spring/summer we plan an having a table there. Maybe I will get to meet some of you.

Just a friendly reminder the hands should be washed after you handle the snake. Thats kinda like washing your hands before you go to the bathroom.
