Is it really that hard to get water snakes to eat mice?

Amanda E Jul 02, 2003 12:58 PM

As my previous post says, I just found a water snake that I will be caring for for a while.

I have mice in the freezer that I could try to feed, but is it even worth the trouble trying?

All of mine are accostumed to eating in their water bowls. So when I put mice in their water bowls, they take them right away. I have had about 50/50 success with water snakes right of the wild taking f/t mice. Just have to try. If not, use baitfish and such to try scenting a mouse (smash up the fish and spread them on the mice...then move the mouse around like a fish). Andy
