paint and pythons????

phone Dec 11, 2004 03:23 AM

I have a 3 year old ball python. Within the next few weeks, my whoke house will undergo a major paint job (there will also be some sanding of plaster walls included) I am afraid that the dust and paint fumes will harm my ball's lungs and respiritory system.
Is this a valid fear? and if so, is my only soution to get the snake out of the house for the next few weeks? or can i just take her out when there will be dust in the air? etc...
anybody with an answer please let me know!
thank you so much!

i would probobly try and keep her out of the dust but as far as the paint fumes go if you cant stand them the snake probobly doesnt like them either.
I dont know much about the fumes, i would assume if its latex it would not be harmful but i cant say for sure....maybe you could move her to another room or somthing and try and keep her separated, maybe try and keep good airflow in the house

Hello. I only know about paint, not plastering and dust, but if it's acrylic paint (latex) then the fumes wouldn't be very harmful, but they could make the snake nauseous. As a rule the fumes from acrylic paint are not harmful, but it can make an adult feel sick if they breath prolonged fumes in. So I would imagine that it wouldn't be good for a snake. I would just say, try to get the snake out while the painitng and plastering is going on. I hope this helps.

I always find it best to err on the side of caution. If theres going to be dust and fumes by all means try to move your snake out to the garage, to a friends house or seal off a room away from the work. You never know what they could be sanding off your walls! But thats just my opinion, I could be wrong!
