common chucks back from Lindsay Pike. Hopefully some will breed next season. This is a 3 year old male bred by Richard Montanucci. It is kind of small for its age at about 9 inches or so.

Hi Tom! Just an awesome chuck! I've been out of herps for a while (mostly into uros, and tegus anbd quite active on the forums here a while ago). Anyways, I recently obtained a baby angel island and another one will be here shortly. The chucks appear to be an awesome herp species and a ton of personality even in their infantile stages. All your posts have been a huge help and educational!

Thanks!

Greg

Love that coloration, Tom.

If you get some free time, could you please e-mail, or just post here your brumation techniques for the chucks.

Thanks,
JE

I change the photo period throughout the year I go up to 14 hours in July and drop it off to about 8-10 hours by November. About the first week of November I stop feeding. I normally keep the night temps at least 76 in the summer and it is usually down in the upper sixties by the Beginning of November. By the end of November the night temps are brought down to about 55. This is easy as I have a thermosatically controlled room for the chucks.(About the only advantage of electric baseboard heat). About the third week I drop off one of the basking lights(I use 2). Then I turn off all the lights at the end of November. It is not really that clear cut though as some of the chucks try to bask even though the it is dark and cold. Then I just put on the lights in that cage for a couple of hours a day for a week and they will usually bask and then go back under. Then about the middle of March I turn on all the lights and raise the night temp back to about 70 and after about a week I start feeding normally again. The months are not cut in stone as some years it seems the chucks want to go under earlier so I might start in October and bring them up in February. It seems to depend a lot on the weather here. My goodness!

What a beautiful lizard! I have never seen one that red. Now i know what you guys mean when you say "red-back". I was just thinking slightly more red than the modest "Mojave Speckleds" I have out here. sheesh.....Well I know where I'm going someday. Crater Range! Unless of course its protected. Anyway, that Chuck is awesome, Tom. I'll talk to you guys later.

Not protected just way over collected in the accessable spots. I collected my breeders back in 1998. Then I stopped by my favorite spot in 2002 and it was wiped out. All the rocks were ripped apart and I saw nothing but a few utas. It was sad.

I have to tell you that I swear by those active uv bulbs from t-rex. I cannot believe how they bring the color out. The pic of Grebster's brother does not do him justice. Their colors went from a washed out red orange to a brick red. The tails went from tan to a butter yellow after about 4 months on these bulbs

They all look awesome! I especially like that last male. What do you use for caging?

They are three sides and bottom of 3/4 inch plywood and the front is glass with a hinged hardware cloth top. They measure 60 inches wide x 30 inches front to back and about 20 inches tall.

Hey Tom,

Why did Lindsay stop working with the chucks? Also, Was Deer Fern Farms ever able to breed any of your chucks? You did send some to Doug didn't you?

Thanks

John Nicholson

I think that Lindsay just bit off more than he could handle. He got real stressed and had a bunch of stuff on his platter and just needed out from under some animals. He thought he wasn't doing the chucks right so he asked if I wanted to get them back. As far as Doug I really don't know. I did sell him some and I think he kept some and sold some to Rob Nimmo. I don't know if he still has any or not. Tom
