FIREBELLY FROG QUESTION - HIBERNATION????

BCWATSON101 Dec 11, 2004 09:52 AM

We have three firebellies that have been croaking as of lately. This morning, all three were in separate corners of their cage, stiff and very cold to the touch. The cage is kept in our bedroom so the temp would be around 70. They don't have a dried up and shriveled look nor do they smell dead. They are in a rigid upright postition. They are two years old. Is this a common thing for them to be hibernating? How can I tell if they are dead vs. hibernating? Thanks!

if they are dead, they WILL be shriveled up. if you keep the temp the same year round they will not hibernate.
i have found my toads always feel cold to the touch as they do not bask as much as lizards or snakes. we are a lot warmer than they are and our hands agsinst thier skin will make it feel like they are colder than they actually are.
give it a few days and see if they are still acting strange

I also have three with a half and half tank. Not usually all at once but once in a while one will just hang out and not be very active. I wouldn't worry about it.
