Best Camera for Herp shooting in the "less than 250 bucks" range

Nomadofthehills Dec 11, 2004 10:18 AM

I have a samsung digimax 530, and i hate it... My closeups are all blurry, and it eats through batteries. It is also really fragile, and bulky.

I wanna sell it, and get a new one. Thanks! I also have a scandisk 250 mb card. I hope I can use this with the new one...

Thanks!

Try a canon powershot. I have the powershot A60 (2mp). It's a very versatile camera, mostly good for close-ups. It's not that great for distant shots. I love min though. It was $200 and I got a recharger and batteries. A bit higher than average battery life. I'm including some of my macro's...

I like to think it's both This camera gets great reviews too. It's my first camera and I was surprised how good the photos came out. The amount of MP in a camera doesn't have to mean the less the worse the more the better. If your going to take pictures that aren't going to be huge prints, there's not really a need to get a high MP camera. Small to medium sized pictures turn out great with this camera. If you want really big resolutions your going to need a higher MP camera. I've had the camera since march.

I know you want to spend less than $250 but go to the camera shop and play with the Kodak DX 6490 10X ZOOM, its 4MP and get some really sick shots. I can have the lense 1" away from subject and take super clear shots. Here is on of them. The only drawback is that is is in the $400 range and I am still trying to figure it out lol.

I'm only 16 (17 this month), so 400 bucks would be spent on a car

Actually, on the fieldherpers forum, I was recomended to get a normal camera, and I am looking into that!

Regular film photography is more expensive and more difficult. You have to know what to set everything at to get the shot you want. Film developing is expensive and can get tedious. Unless you set up a studio in yur house, you won't be able to alter your shots whilst development (darkroom tecniques). Digitals are easier. A lot of digitals have film quality shots. You don't have a bunch of film canisters to worry about either, just a little memory card. And you can upload straight to the computer, you don't need a scanner or dock.
