Are Brazilian Rainbows always shy?

phiff1 Jul 02, 2003 01:20 PM

All mine wants to do is hide. It is a little under a year old though so I am hoping this might change over time. Just wondering what people's experiences with their personalities have been.

Mine spend alot of time hiding in its cage during the day comes out to explore at night. You bring her out at any time and you can't stop her from moving all over the place.

Most snakes, by nature, love to hide. Rainbow boas are not much different. Keep in mind also that they are strictly nocturnal. In two years, I have never seen my Brazilian rainbow come out during the day. In fact, he's usually only out and about during a small window of time, about 10 pm until 4 am. I rarely see him before or after these times, unless I get him out myself.

Nevertheless, he's still a very cool snake!

Take care.

Tending to be in it's hide to me is not a 'shy' thing but just a snake thing. My BRB comes out of her hide to see what is happening the second I open her cage. So, in that sense, she is not shy. But, if I don't open her cage she is in her hide all day.
I have had mine since her first meal so she is very used to me and her surroundings. She is over a year, but not by tons.....trying to remember without checking cards I think she was a year in April.
With handling I think they are one of the nicest boas. But I am a tweech prejudiced. If your's hides and doesn't come out when you open the cage then she is shy and, again, sorta normal. I would just keep getting her out and showing her that the world is cool and not something to be afraid of. It will depend on the individual but still.
