Another gold dust day gecko question.

chibicricket Dec 11, 2004 06:13 PM

I actually have a few. I've been considering getting a gold dust day because I think they are so pretty. I have a 14yr old el salv blue iguana, and a leopard gecko right now, and I've heard that you can't handle day geckos like you can an ig or leo. I've read a lot about them for the past month, but I actually wanted some input from an actual owner. Are they difficult to care for? How is their temperament? Are they similar to caring for a chameleon because of their skin? Any information would help. I don't want to take on any kind of responsibility that I'm not prepared for. And if it turns out that a day gecko isn't the best idea for me, maybe I'll get a friend for my leo.

Day geckos are pretty neat little guys. I have two giant day geckos that I raised from babies-adults. One thing to watch out for though is that the gold dust geckos are small and REALLY fast, and you can't grab them. So for starters make sure you get a good enclosure so you can clean the cage, feed, water, and do general maintence without them easily escaping. I find that my cage with a side opening helps, as they tend to want to run up
