Intelligence in Boas

woodchip Dec 11, 2004 08:44 PM

While I realise boas will never be able to do modern math (don't mean much...I can't do modern math ), my boa has progressed from striking and coiling a dead rat dangling from the tongs, to not striking and just opening her mouth and starting to consume the rat. Her latest brainstorm is to not even waste her energy to take the rat from the tongs. Now she makes me lay the rat on top of her so she doesn't even have to raise her head to feed. So much for Dumerils being picky eaters.

My dumeril's does the same thing. She never strikes and coils anymore...just sits there and gently takes it from the tongs. Also she has never refused food. She is now 3 years old.

I wonder if that is a Dumerils thing. I also have a 03 female dumerils that does the same thing. She just gently opens her mouth and takes the rat from the tongs. Of course the rat is f/t.

` I've seen many Boids who got so tame that the feeding response got proportional to the circumstances.
` This big guy is a lot of Boa to hand feed, but he's eaten this way since his first meal, when he was only 18 inches long. He doesn't just want it handed to him, he wants it pushed down his gullet, too.
` I'm not recommending this, so please don't try it.
