JDouglas Dec 11, 2004 10:20 PM

These boas have been courting for a couple of months now and I just snapped a couple pics...

In this pic it appears to be Pre-ovulation twist? What do you think?

In this pic it appears to be ovulation...

and yes this is a Salmon breeding a hog.

In the 2nd pic, it appears that the male is still trying to court the female - I have not found this to be the case. From what I've heard, and seen, the males will lose all interest a few days before she ovulates. That's how it always seems to happpen here.
I have a sweet Hypo/Hog male and would love for you to have my email addy if you produce any of these awesome babies. Thanks, David

Hi Jaremy,

First of all, I am new at this.....but in the past my males lost interest a week or so before I saw an ovulation. This year, in the pics I posted below of Jessica, the male lost interest in breeding at least 4 weeks before this ovulation. I was beginning to get bummed, thinking it was a no go, but then she started her ovulation on Friday evening. During the last 4 weeks, I kept putting the male back in with her, periodically, to see if he would show interest. Sometimes he would crawl onto her and investigate, but when I would check back later, he would be curled up resting, or at the door looking at me, wanting out.

Good luck with those guys!! It won't be much longer

I am also very new at breeding boas. Thank you for the advice. That was exactly what I was looking for! I have read this forum for several years and have also read many books and watched videos but had never heard that males lose interest well before ovulation. Often it seems that important information like this can be left out because it seems obvious to experienced breeders. I will definitely keep the pairs together!
Here is a better pic of the pair...

Thanks again,

Jaremy
