Hello everyone. I'm new to the boards. My name is Matt and i have a beautiful male Carpet Python named Burber. I plan on getting another snake, but i don't know what i want. I know i don't want a Ball Python....they just don't interest me. Any suggestions would be nice.

thanks,

There are a lot of geat snakes peoples could mention, but we could tell better what we think you would like with more information. So here are some questions that will help me at least to narrow down my sugjestions.

1) What size snake are you looking for? Does size matter?
2) What is your price range?
3) How long have you ben keeping snakes?
4) Are you interested more in personality, or looks?
5) Do you want to handle the snake a lot?
6) Do you want a snake that is active? laid back? Does it matter?
7) Any other information you think might be helpfull.

I want a big snake, but my dad won't let me, so its gonna have to be a medium sized snake, around 6-8 feet. Price really doesn't matter. I have been keeping snakes for about a year now. I want both personality and look in a snake. I also want to be able to handle the snake every day if i desire.

thanks,
Mattyb

Hmm... Six to eight feet, docile and cool looking. There are quite a few options for you. All snakes are cool looking (to me) and personality is relative, but the animals below are in your size range and generally even tempered.
Male red tail boas grow to about that range and for good karma you could get one from a reptile rescue. (be sure it's male since females would grow larger.)
Black rat snakes can grow that big, and come in a variety of morphs.
Pine and bull snakes are large, impressive, and I've only read about them, but they're apparently pretty nice animals.
I'm sure there are many I'm forgetting, but those are the ones that come to mind.

Personally i would go with a pine/bull/gopher snake. Many get around 5 feet long, and they are very nice animals. Their color patterns while very "nature like" are very attractive. My other sughestion would be a type of kingsnake. They are less likely to just hang out, as they are more active, but they are more attractive. Many also consider them to have a better personality.

Thanks for all your help. I was acually thinking about a kingsnake. I also saw a picture of a adult candy cane snake and they are very nice...i may get one for my girlfriend.
