RESULTS ARE INNNN................................................................................

lucyleo Jul 02, 2003 01:53 PM

well here it goes........ the lab results of the sample of mucus on the eye has come back and has revealed heavy growth of Pseudomonas aeruginosa. This bacteria is always a difficult & nasty one to treat.According to the results, this strain of bacteria is sensitive to gentamicin which is the eye drops which were prescribbed to my leo. However, since she isn't showing sighns of improvement at this point then she shall be prescribbed oral antibiotic as well. I hope my leo will get well soon with the antibiotics. Once again science proves all. The lab results came out and told me more info about the infection. Now i have a second hand to fight it.

this desease is unexpected and can lead to blindness, if not treated. And it can also effect any person including me, if you have a weak immune system. Which can possibly lead to pnemonia, or worse on any person. There is no sure cause of this disease. It can be treated with 2 antibiotics at once, which is the plan she is on since a couple days ago. Im only sad because my poor little girl was affected by this disease and is streesed out

I'v worked in the lab with this bug, we are more careful with this than some of the 'nastier' bugs. It is amazing we all actually live with all these microscopic dangers.

Good luck Lucy, Is she getting oral gentamicin? Word of caution..if your vet gave you a syringe/ liquid to dose orally at home, try to be as accurate as possible with dosage of that antibiotic...it can cause organ damage particulalrly if overdosed.

I'm giving a different, safer antibiotic to my leos now, and it is not easy to ensure the exact dose when it is so tiny! (.002 mm!!)

safer. sounds good. but what is this product you speak of? my vet may change antibiotics. better safe than sorry i say....
