really strange behavior in male corn--

kingofrain21 Jul 02, 2003 01:53 PM

about two weeks ago, i peered into the tank which i keep my adult male corn in and he was puffing out his throat area, -he's good size, about 4.5 feet and it looked like he had a pinky in his throat or something... slowly it went away (in the course of a minute or so) - - i decided to give it a day and see what his deal was... the next day i begin to slide the screen off and he began bobbing his head up and down, really strange stuff... nothing i've ever seen before -- anyhow, i decided to let it go, and nothing strange has happened since, but i was reading a leopard gecko care sheet today and it mentioned something about a puffy pouch in the throat area indicating sickness and just wanted to make sure this wasn't the same in corns...
any thoughts on this?
thanks for responding in advance

could it be stress related? just a thought...

A distended throat in most snake species almost always means that it has an R.I. Watch him closely and even if you have a sneaking suspicion that something's wrong, take hi to a vet.

he's still eating like a horse, has great heat and clean water and tank all the time... could be stress, but i would think that if he had an infection he'd have more negative symptoms, but i'll check it out for sure, thanks for the advice!

i have a female corn that puffs up her throat, im pretty sure mine is a deffence mechanism.as it is usually followed by hissing, tail vibrating, and biting.however i cant really explain the head bobbing, might wanna get him checked by a vet.better safe than sorry.
