What is the best turtle to go in a tank with a musk turtle?

A mud, I guess, if you don't want another different kind of musk.

i keep eastern painteds with my musk and they have no problem

I wouldn't recommend a mud with a musk. Some musks will not tolerate another turtle period, regardless of species. It's something you will have to just watch closely...I wouldn't get another bottom walker though. And if you get a basker, check toes and tails often...those musks can be naughty little guys.
