Looks a lot like the klaubs from southern Chihuahua. Nice!
Hey Rich,
I was thinking Durango or Chihuahua too. Will the answer be shared?????
his parents were collected in southern Chihuahua.
Here's a pic I took down there in 2002. Little female.

little girl.

Hey Rich, That doesn't look anything like that other lepidus!!! LOL!!!! Great shots. Happy holidays!! hugh
your right! What the heck was I thinking! Not even the same color. LOL.
Happy holidays to you and yours also!
There are willardi from southern Chihuahua, then there are willardi from southern Arizona!!!!

I love that coloring! Thanks!

Checked ISIS and the Fort Worth Zoo is one of the only two US zoos to have B. marchi. That narrowed it down.
Shame on me! I should have been able to identify my own captive bred klauberi. And yes, Rich, your guess was on the money. Have you seen any down there yet?
unfortunately all in the pre-camera days. In 2002 we went the last week of Sept and it was very cold. There was a light snow at the highest elevations the night we arrived. Not much to speak of snakewise, the willardi, one live and one DOR pricei, some garters, Conopsis and deppei. I need to get back with something better than a 2.1 MP camera. I would really like to get a series nigrescens photos from different elevations. Are they getting harder to find or is it just my luck/timing?
I've never actually seen any nigrescens in Chihuahua. I have seen quite a few though in Durango (both sides of the Sierra Madre Occidental), Aguascalientes, and Nuevo Leon. I saw a tremendous amount of variation in one population near the Durango/Sinaloa border. Neat snakes, and not as aggressive as they are rumored to be.
although there is the usuall individual variation in temperment, generally, I don't think they are any more tempermental than nominate molossus. Last one I saw (and my only photograph) was just hit by the truck that had passed us thirty seconds before. Pancho and Rosario (the brothers there at the ranch)say that they are getting very hard to come by due to the locals actually searching them out to kill and dry for medicinal purposes.
I think this is probably my favorite rattlesnake, I love all the geographic variation. What with the variations you guys saw in Durango and likes of what Chris H. put up from Distrito Federal I think one could devote a whole web page to nigrescens. Sadly I will probably have to retire before I can get enough time to get any further south than Chihuahua. So much to see, so little time.
