Mercury Vapor Bulb for UVB

greenguy Dec 12, 2004 01:36 PM

I've been doing a little research into lighting for my Ig's and I came across something that I hadn't seen before. Currently, I have two 24in. reptisun 5.0 bulbs in each cage. From what I understand they put out about 10 microwatts, while the sun puts out about 300 microwatts. Now, I came across a mercury vapor bulb that puts out about 200-250 microwatts for about $75.00. It's called the MegaRay. I was just wondering if anyone was using it or heard anything about the performance of the bulb.

If you are getting it from reptileuv.com then bobmac is a great person to do buisness with. i picked up a mercvapor myself a couple weeks back and upgraded from the tubes... you wouldnt believe the difference in my guy. he is eating more (he already eats like a piggy) but he seems to like it. I am very pleased with it.

Yes, that's the site that I was thinking about getting the lights! I wasn't sure if anyone else had heard of them or not. Furthermore, I wasn't sure how they would effect my ig's. Wow, that's the kind of recommendation that will make me do business with them.

i have 2 sets of the pricey externally ballasted Mega-Ray kits, and gotta say..they ARE awesome! at $75 each, it's a hit up front, but those bulbs are guaranteed for a yr, and the ballast for 2 yrs. (replacement bulbs are $40) my new zoomed 5.0's were putting out maybe 20 microwats at 12 inches. the mega-ray is giving me about 180 at 18 inches, and 150 at 24 inches. with this bulb, i can put it farther away & still get tons of UVB. just be sure not to put it closer than recommended...or it will be too much UVB.

I've only been hearing great things about the bulbs; and, I want my igs to be as healthy and happy as possible. So, I don't have a choice...I'm getting them!
