HE'S POTTY TRAINED

blue_tegu Jul 02, 2003 02:34 PM

I read somewhere on here that bathing your tegus stimulates their bowel movement. Well, tahts absolutely true. I give mine a bath then put him on some newspaper for a couple of minutes and then he'll go the bathroom, then i clean him up and let him walk around the house, knowing he wont poop/pee anywhere. Just thought I'd give soem advice.

I've done almost the same thing with my tegus. I would take them to the bathtub with water and they would go. Then I started putting them in the tub with out water and they would go. They really don't want to go in the cage at all; neither of them has for months. Ever since they were babies I've noticed they like to go in some place away from their home. Lately I started taking one of mine out side and he goes right away out there every day. Today I put him out, he went then took him back in and he ran around my living room for awhile then I took him back out and he went again but nothing really came out you know. I still don't feel confident they won't go on the carpet though. But the one that I've been taking outside for a week hasn’t went inside since and he seems to prefer outside. It's nice cuz I don't have to do anything with it when it's in the lawn or under a bush.

Awesome News! We need to spend more time working with ours. They have the tub with water down pat, we just need to progress them to newspaper. We did leave REx & Tamika roam for the day without anyone home, which we do on occassion. They have access to their cage room, plus another room. Good thing Trish (my wife) got home before I did and cleaned up Rex's smelly messes. Boy, I heard about it too!!!

Keep up the terrific job!!!

Greg
