Does anyone know where I can get one as a hatchling? If not, can someone tell me the largest tortoise that I can easily buy?

Aldabras are easier to find and get just as big. Someone on this board (Ed/EJ) sells them regularly, ask him...

But unless you are ready (money/space/time) to raise a HUGE farm animal I'd stick with th emore common large torts (sulcata, leopard...)

You can buy Aldabras any day of the year... as long as your willing to pay.

(btw, I can tell you where there are 3 left for sale)

Very hard to get hatchling Galaps these days. Someone in florida is actualy hatching out many every year, but she has decided to stop selling them to the general public. There are a few bigger sized adults in california. I think within the next few years, some or those may breed and a few of the hatchling may become available. Be prepared to mortgage the house to pick one of those up.
Like everyone said, get a nice aldabra from Ed.
Good luck
