Shed Questions

I have two ball pythons that are both getting ready to shed soon ( dull colored and eyes hazed over). I usually feed them on satuday night but decided not to mess with them last night due to the upcoming sheds, is this the proper thing to do or should I at least offer food and see if they will eat? If in fact I did the proper thing, when do I offer food again, right after they shed or keep them on normal feeding schedule and wait till next saturday to offer food? thanx in advance for any help.

I was taught many years ago when snakes are in shed, leave them be. Since joining the board, I've noticed that people do feed and handle their snakes while in shed. So when I got my new snakes, I decided to give it a try. Both fed during their last shed and I have continued to feed on schedule. If you're offering f/t then I'd say give it a try what have you got to loose, either they will or they won't. If you are feeding live, I'd give it a try but keep an eye on them, if they're still a bit cloudy, they might misjudge the mouse and might end up getting getting bit (be ready to jump in).

I feed mine and hold her when she is in shed, never had a problem. My snake never refuses a warm rat, lol. I'd try it if I were you, most snakes don't have a problem with it. How old are they and how often and what are you feeding them?

They are both around 5 months,I offer small young rats once every 7 days. Not sure what you would exactly call the rats I.E. fuzzy, weaned or whatever, they weigh about 20 grahms, the rats that is.
