Anyone else of the opinion that, if NOTHING was known about those animals that is known today (ie, no hoopla surrounding them), anyone think w/ their lack of peaks on certain animals, intra-saddle markings, and aberrant patterns that those babies would take a major effort to sell if produced or offered by a relative "no-name" in the hobby? I am certainly of that opinion. Obviously there is no way to prove this so all we could do is merely speculate, but I just think that certain animals are considered non-desireable until someone w/ a reputation calls them desireable. Sad... very sad.
Thoughts? jb

i have to admit they "ARE" very beautiful animals and would love to get one soon .. and i also agree that the prices are a bit up there .. but i dont know if this is a good or bad thing . i suppose for some reasons its good and for some its bad. i have seen unknown breeders here and there produce just as nice animals ,sometimes better for around $250 to $300 .. but the big names werent behind the snakes thus makin em cheaper . but i think its better this way.. keep the animals prices up and maybe people will strive to do more selective breeding than just any male and female .. i have been attacked on here before for saying stuff like this .. but lets face it .. everyone wants the "BEST" surinam , guyana , bci or whatever !! and people came on here telling me how i shouldnt be like that .. that alllll snakes are beautiful.. and i do agree..alllll snakes are beautifull to me to .. "BUT" we want the "MOST" beautifull ones i know thats what i want !! and i know thats what everyone else wants !! if not we wouldnt come on here to see what crazy lookin animals people are producing .. just my honest opinion .. koky

Here is my take. . .

Pete Bandre was giving the chance to purchase the mother, when she was gravid and still in Suriname. They wanted thousands for her, because she was said to be record size (I believe the importer said 16ft). He didn't want to spend that much money and the female delivored while still in Suriname. Pete purchased all of the babies sight unseen. They came in, and where an average of 27". Also, two of the babies where striped. A few babies where highly attractive, as seen in this picture *property of Brian@ Florida RedTails.*

They had genetic striping and giant genes are very attractive. But, on average, I would say yes, they would be harder to sell than many suris today. The reason they are so sought after is their genetics, and what we know they are capable of producing. Big size, super light, genetic striping, and a VERY strong gene for widows peaks!

The previous owner didn't feed him a lot. His head is HUGE. I don't mind though...I love smaller males .

Nice. I knew there was more than one that had allot of stripping! I know im missing some of the pictures like the one Peter Watson owned. Oh and you forgot to mention they can produce reverse striping too but the contrast is my favorite. You really have to see them in person to really appreciate there beauty. By the way can I use this picture for my site? Later

Yeah, you can definitely use the picture. Here is a picture of mine and Peter Watsons when they where young. Pete Badre bought them unseen, and when they same in the importer wouldn't give up the stripers which is why they are not in your pictures. Also, a few babies where stolen from his shop.

Next is some pictures of Pete's striper for your site. You definitely need to see these in person to appreciate them...they glow!

I cant wait to see what he produces! Hopefully I have better luck this year, last year sucked not being around and all but this year im praying to the boa gods. I also hope to breed my reverse striper this year, I have a really big female (not the greatist looking but big) for him and it should be interesting to see how that goes too. Anyway good luck with this guy this year and send me any striped babies you might get.

Most of those snakes are dog ugly. No offense to anyone. A few, like the late great bobo are smokin hot. I have some of his direct and not so direct offspring.

I would'nt pay $500 for almost anyone of those animals, though I would pay much more for a select few.

Though, that's my opinion on MOST litters.

To me it's all about the SPECIFIC animal, not the rest of the litter or whos cousin bred what. THOUGH, there is DEFFINATLY something to be said for animals who CONTINUALLY produce smokers. That's why I bought any in the first place, they were (are) smokers to begin with, and their parents consistantly threw smokers.

I have other animals that were the only one worth a second glance out of a litter of ugly ducks.

Don't get caught up in hoopla, but dont ignore consistant results.

How's that for flip floppin?

but what Brian did with Bobo is awesome. Although Bobo, didn't breed himself, Brian knows who to pair up to produce what "the crackheads" like. His adults look nothing like the animals that everybody wants , but the combination sure as hell throws some screamers.
