hi,
my charles(male veiled) is sick, dehydration! what else!! a quick cure for now is towels around the cage and a water kettle. but for around the clock, what are we using??????? i was thinking about having a 5-10 gallon container with a heating probe with thermostat and have it venting in the bottom of the cage. i would canopy the top part of the screen cage about half way. i could adjust the thermostat to correct the temp & humidity as required. after having a few beers, the mind is off to work on ideas, lol!! all inputs are required for my sick chamo! another thing i need to know is a cricket dust with a expiry date so i know it is fresh.

Hi - Why are you sure it is dehydration? You are saying he is "sick." what is "sick?"

What is your setup like in general: lights, temps, etc. etc. etc. How do you currenlt supply his water? do you see him drink? does he drink from a dripper or are you only counting on misting?

Your proposed setup sounds a bit drastic and could possibly lead to URI if you are not careful. If you live in a dry area (any where in the north in winter) you need to setup a humidifier on a timer. I use the small sunbeam personal humidifier that can actually be placed in the cage. I have her surrrounded on all sides with plastic shower curtain and towel on top if I want her to get get really steamy (usually once a day).

Anyway, give us the usual setup info and don;t freak out too much.

hi,
i've had a vet visit us to check on the enclosure and the pet. my screened cage is not warm enough(20°c) and the humidity is low(40%). i need to raise both NOW because of the condition he's in, it would be beneficial for his recovery. a water dripper & misting alone is not enough. he has a basking light & repti 5.0 and real plants. does your humidifyer increase the temp & humidity to the required amount(30-35°c & 70-80% for the jungle feeling). the heating season up here in canada is not helping especially when i have to dehumidify the house. his condition is dehydration and MBD is present. i also have to change is diet to increase his calcium & phosphorus intake.

I would use a plastic sheet, something like suran-wrap, to cover the bottom portions of screen, that will help hold in the humidity level once you have misted, also use warm water it will also hold up the humidity.

hi,
i've just purchased a honeywell warm humidifyer(HDU) and placed clear plastic around the top 2 feet portion of the screened cage(2'dx2'wx4'h). the HDU is outside of the cage for the moment and the plastic is hanging over the nozzle of the HDU. there is no room to install the HDU inside the cage. i will try to fit it in later but i'll have to take one of the four plants out. will lowering the plastic all the way down cause any problems? the HDU humidstat would be functional in this set-up but i need to know first hand before attempting such a move. presently, the humidity is at 70% and the temperature about 30°celsius(86°F).
