I got a short horned from NM and hes a baby.1 how can I tell if hes a boy or girl.2 how do I feed it he wont eat Ive been giving him ants or what else can I feed him.3 the ants were stinging him on his tum tum and his tail can I put something on the stings

ok I got him to eat but how can I get him to eat ants I got him to eat crickets

Hi maybe I can help you, know one is answering my questions either. I only have experence with the Desert HL and the Round tail HL for 3 years. It sounds to me that maybe you have to small of a cage or the ants are to large. There has to be enough room in your cage for the lizard to be in the cage without ants crawling all over the lizard, and onless the cage is really large you should just put in a few ants, and wait tell they are eaten, unless you are sure he will eat 6 or 7 at a feeding. I have never had the short horn, but I think it needs at least a 10 or 15 gal. aquarim just for 1 or 2 babies, if those lizards were larger you would need a 20 gal. aquarim. I know i spelled that wrong but you know what I mean. What size of cage do you have? Also the baby HL's eat smaller ants then the adults.

i just got a 10 gallon yesterday its long wize not tall wize and my dad got some large gut loaded crickets the cricket was half the size of him he eat it ill try some ants. I also got some vita sand will that give him impaction and he just pooped and I saw it before but for got hes got little worms my brother said it was probly (sorry) pinworms he dosnt know to much about worms

Please do not feed your horned lizard large food items that are half his size, you can kill him that way, horned lizards need special care. Ants ants and more ants, all horned lizards eat at least 50% ants, some eat as much as 90%. If your giving it some crickets, and your HL is a baby those crickets should be pin heads. But he still needs ants. You can get them at Antsalive.Com they are about .02 cents if you buy 20.$ worth or you can trap your own ants. What state do you live in? Take care of your lizard.
