i dont know what the best subsrait for collards, but im pretty sure they are somewhat dessert animals. if im correct, then theres probably a argument of what the best subsrtait is. this is for any one that uses this type of bedding. im posting this in every forum that i think the herp is atleast partly dessert. i work at a major petstore chain, and we got an email today. it sais that ESU crushed walnut shell lizard litter bedding should absolutly under no surcomstance be used unless there is a screen ontop of it. its almost a 100% death wish for any reptile that eats it because is not digestable at all. so i thought id let you all know just incase your using it.
thanks for taking the time to read.

lol, what are you doing in my other forum. are your following me
i don't think we "debate" about anything in this forum. in order to own collared lizards and hang out with us, you have to be laid back except when it comes to taking pictures, that requires much work and all your time. eve has taught us well

>>i dont know what the best subsrait for collards, but im pretty sure they are somewhat dessert animals.

I don't think anyone here eats collards for dessert. I don't think they eat lizards either.

As far as collareds being desert dwellers, some are, and some aren't. C. collaris inhabits a wide range of habitats, to include forest clearings in OK/AR/MO.

i work at a major petstore chain, and we got an email today. it sais that ESU crushed walnut shell lizard litter bedding should absolutly under no surcomstance be used unless there is a screen ontop of it.

I'm curious--does the pet store still SELL the substrate?

its almost a 100% death wish for any reptile that eats it because is not digestable at all.

Neither is sand.

first off, im 20 yrs old, and ive come to the conclusion about 12 years ago, that im never going to be good at spelling, so i appologize for that. and second, yeah the petstore chain will keep selling it, under the condition we warn buys that it shouldnt be used unless a screen is ontop of it. when im there i spend 90% of my time in the one reptile isle, so i ussually know whos buying what. we're not aloud to use it for any of our reptiles, and i wouldnt any way. but i just posted a message like that in every forum that i thought would be a desert dwelling animal. if the chain found out i was spouting at that the mouth, id be in pretty bad trouble. but i care about herps enough to atleast warn everyone, and show that there is now proof that this stuff is bad. and last, as far as sand goes. sand will pass through system of most herps as long as its not big chunks, alot was eating, or calci-sand. the only kind of sand i use is quickcreat play sand. its sifted, baked and a bunch of other crap.

Nevin,

I appreciate your taking the time (and the risk) to warn us about the potential hazard of this substrate. That was very thoughtful of you. Thanks!
