My 2 Headed RES is Eating!!!!

catnipcutie Dec 12, 2004 11:20 PM

Hi everyone. I just thought I would share with you that my two headed RES is finally eating regularly! YAY!! They've been eating reptomin pellets every day now for the last four days and seem to be happier than ever! Thanks a lot to everyone for your support and advice! The trick was I turned up the water temp and they've seemed to be hungrier since I did that. Thanks a lot everyone!

Just wondering because i have never owned a '2-headed animal' before... Does your 2-headed turtle actually eat from both heads? or just one of them??? Also, if this 2-headed turtle would produce eggs, would the baby turtles have a higher chance of having 2 heads, or not? thanks for any responses

Hi again. Actually I'm not sure if they were to produce if the hatchlings would have a higher chance of having two heads. That's a good question..

I can say that both heads are eating. They both seem to like the reptomin however one of them seems to like romaine lettuce a lot. It's pretty funny actually.

Thanks a lot!!

Nice to find out that your little one(s) is eating. Hope you have many happy years with them.

I am curious...does each "head" have its own unique personality? For example, will one snap at your fingers while one tries to swim away or draw into its shell when you approach?

For that matter, can both heads withdraw into the shell? Does one head seem more dominant than the other?

Does the turtle swim normally, or is each hemisphere of limbs cross-controlled by each head? If you grab a limb, do both heads react, or just one?

Very interesting phenomenon you have there.

My two headed RES definately has two personalities! One head (Jekyll) likes to try and go one way while the other (Hyde) tries to go the other way. One tries to swim and the other wants to bask! It's actaully very cute to watch. They can swim, but not very well. They like to swim a few tiems a day and get their excersize. When they walk, the sort of hobble. But that doesn't seem to hold them back from getting around. They really go in reverse very well! LOL! On ehead tends to like crickets and the other likes the reptomin. When I touch their limbs, they do feel it, but I'm not sure which head does or if they both do. But they are so cute and I love having them as my pet!

Thanks.

I am so happy that your turtle is eating. I wanted to say that I don't want you to get your hopes up too high because usually the two headed turtles don't live long. There is another turtle forum that I am a part of and there is a breeder there named turtle pimp and he had a two headed turtle. I think you should talk with him about any questions you may have. You may even teach eachother some things. Here's the link to the other forum.
http://www.turtletimes.com/Forums/index.php This guy is from Florida and is a moderator on this other forum. I think you two could learn alot from eachother about two headed turtles.

Thanks for the info on the other turtle forum. I'll definitely check it out!

Thanks.
