Lime removal from glass tanks

sprig Dec 13, 2004 06:57 AM

Does anyone have a clue on how to do it? I have two used 20 gal and one used 50 gal tank that all have lime build-up on them. I've been having a devil of a time trying to remove it all. It's so bad on one that most of it is cloudy; can't see the animals in there very well at all!

Thanks for your help!

(Just kidding about the bird! But I DO have a hubby, a 10 yr old boy and a 3 yr old girl in the mix!)

Use CLR or another acid based lime remover along with several sharp razor blades.

Wear rubber gloves but don't worry too much about toxicity. A friend of mine cleaned a tank up with CLR after work one day and had fish in it by 9:00 that night. They all lived. Just make sure you rinse well.

Thanks, Chris! I tried the CLR and the scraping, but not at the same time! Duh...

I appreciate the advise!
