My mali Buddy hasn't come out this morning yet. It is 10:00 am and he is usually out basking by 8:30 am. I don't want to brumate him but I think he is wild caught and maybe he just knows it is time to do this. What can I do? He does have good weight on him but his tail is not fat yet and I know that the tail stores extra fat just for this. I also checked him and he is alive. He is in his burrow and he dug all the sand out and he is sleeping on the glass. I don't know if there is anything I can do. Any suggestions is welcomed.

PS He has been eating a lot for the past week.

is this his first day of doing this? maybe he is just "taking the day off" god knows i wish i could. but my guys have days when they just want to hide.
since i don't brumate my guys, i always go through the motions and let them decide if they want to wake up or not.

Milo has done that before too. Sometimes he is up in earliy sometimes he sleeps in. I don't see a problem as long as he is eating & acting the same.

Well yes this is his first time doing this since I owned him (since june) My husband touched his tail and he moved so at least I know that he is alive. As for acting the same... he has except eating a whole lot more the past week. Pooping, pacing and glass dancing are the same. When I let him out he loves it as always. So I guess I just have to wait and see. Do I keep feeding him and one day he will come out RIGHT? It is 2:00 pm and still no Buddy.

Last year, I didn't allow Ra to brumate partially because he was (at least I thought) too young and I wasn't experienced enough to handle a full brumation of my uro. Just leave the lights on for normal hours, don't lower the cage temps for the season and continue to feed as normal. If he doesn't come out for a while, take him out and play with him for a bit, then place him on his basking spot and see if he'll warm up enough to wake up for an hour or two. A bath once in a while might be a good idea too (Ra was slightly impacted after his "partial" brumation, I'm sure some people on here will remember my short-lived panic ).
I don't think you can stop a uro from brumating entirely. He'll probably partially brumate but won't be in a really deep sleep.

Good luck with Buddy

Thank you everyone with your replies. I think if he won't come out tomorrow I will try to wake him up on Wed. I hope he is alright.

Both Ares and Apollo do that. They'll sleep together in their hide and won't come out for awhile. Sometimes I'm worried enough I lift up their hide, and feel that they are both warm to the touch so I know they were basking while I was gone.

Maybe Buddy wants to rest awile cause he's been eating a ton. Buddy might also bask when you're not watching, uro's are tricky like that.

I hope he comes out again so you feel less worried!

Good Luck!

Traid,
Buddy hasn't come out today AT ALL. My husband works in the room where Buddy and Tiny our ig stay. My son wants to take him out of the hide tomorrow and take him to the vet if he looks sick but I told him lets wait until Wed. What do all of you think. I'm new at this and most likely making to much of this.

Buddy is always out basking and only goes into his burrow at night to sleep.

keep an eye on him, but i do not think that a uro would eat that much if he were not feeling well. how was the weather today? overcast? or was there a sudden change from hot to cold? i swear lizards can tell these things even if they are not near a window!

Well the weather did turn colder (for Miami) and Sunday it was cool too. I think he knew what was up.
