A blue beard??

Altimaes300 Dec 13, 2004 02:28 PM

Okay, this guy just fired up a blue beard!?! He's about 6 months old and hasn't shown his beard until today. I soaked him with another female and he expressed himself by firing up a blue beard. It was a light shade of blue, almost aqua. I'm going to try and catch him in the act a little later on today and snap a few photos, but was wondering if you guys ever had this happen to you? The other strange thing is he's normally light red to bright red depending on his mood. After I saw the blue beard I noticed some other fantastic rainbow coloring on his back. Lots of orange, red, blue....he's a Cawley red and I am including a picture of him I took a few days ago. His head and legs are still in shed. Thanks

Okay, here is two pictures! Again, he has a completely white underside when he is cooled off. He's much more stunning in person, but you can see the black to gray on his belly and his bluish, greenish, aqua looking beard. It looks blue in person!

I'm thinking your dragon is gonna be shedding his beard in the next week or two. After he sheds it'll be a black beard like the color he has on his chest. It's just the black beard showing through older cloudy skin. Nothing to worry bout.

Yeah, that's what I'm thinking. It's neat looking anyway.

Thanks, you wouldn't know where to find a nice female match for him would you? I traded mine away and thought about selling this guy because I am "male heavy" right now. I'd like to keep him, but I don't like having 6 seperate enclosures for males and could use the space. He's my nicest male right now, but have not been able to make breeding plans for him next year! Anyway...

Yeah it can be tricky finding a really nice female of age to breed. I haven't checked the classifieds recently, but when I was browsing the other day I saw Brandon from dragonsbynature.com selling a few older dragons. He had a few, but I Don't remember if most where males or females, but I think he did have a breeding age female for sale. Maybe you could check him out as he produces some great looking dragons every year. Other then that just keep an eye on the classifieds as sometimes they do pop up for sale. Good luck in your search.
