eye problem

pinky22 Dec 13, 2004 06:13 PM

I got my beardy about a month ago. He was neglected greatly, and my boss (who is a herpatologist) thought his eye was popped out. One of his eyes was normal, and the other one looked like his eyelid was caved in, and where the eyelid would open, there was like a tube poking out. I figured it was just his body reacting to the missing eye. A few times it looked as though he was blinking the eye. Well today, I went to go soak him in the bathroom, and I realized that it was open! It's not totally open, but you can see his pupil, and the brown ring around it. He responds to movement in front of it. Does anyone know what is wrong with it?! It doesn't look infected, but it doesn't look normal either. I know he was housed with other reptiles where he used to live, so I don't know if maybe he was sick, but now that he's getting fed hes getting better. Just to explain what kind of shape he was in when I got him, I placed him in a tub of water; he sat and drank for a good 2 minutes. I just want to make sure he's ok. If anyone knows whats going on I would greatly appreciate it!

I don't know. I had a little guy and he was attacked by my cat. (The cat broke in the herp room and jumped into his cage) His eye was swollen for 3 days. I thought it was clawed out, but when the swelling subsided his eye was back to normal.

I saw this post on the other forum too... I hate to say but you need a vet. It could be an infection. If you can't afford a vet I would treat for hyopvitaminosis A, it is the most common cause of eye problems in reptiles. Raise the vit A supplememntation CAREFULLY because high levels are toxic. Try to instead of using a vitamin powder, feed foods that are high in vit A, it is safer:
