How do you sex a beardie?

stilltraining Dec 13, 2004 08:57 PM

Got a baby (I think he's barely out of hatchling stage) and was wondering how to determine it's sex. I am hoping it's a female (have a male from fire and ice dragons on the way shortly), but the store I bought it at couldn't tell me.

You might not be able to at that age. Hold "it" in the palm of your hand, lift her tail until her butt is at a 90 degree angle. (don't worry, it wont her it.) Look right below the anus where the tail starts. Males will have 2 small bulges on each side that can be resemble little balls at that age or be elongated but somewhat noticable. If its got one bulge in the middle, then it's female. If you cant tell after looking for a minute or two then the organs haven't started to show yet. It also works well if your in a room where ther is one overhead light so you can position it to where their is a slight shadow. Hope this makes sence.
