What kind of snake is this????????

oreganus Jul 02, 2003 04:32 PM

I just bought this snake, it was sold as some type of hooknose, due to its appearance. All I can tell you is it from surinam and they had no idea what it was. I know most of the people on this forum are the most knowledgable it seems, so can anyone please tell me what this is??? BGF,TT,anyone??? Venomous? not venomous? Any help would be greatly appreciated. It is a very cool snake none the less.
Thanks
KEvin

Cool snake, I have caught these in Venezuela.

Phimophis is a pseudoboine, i.e., a relative of Clelia, Pseudoboa, Oxyrhopus etc. As such, it is what would conventionally be called a rear-fang, but like other pseudoboines, they rarely bites, and I have never heard of anyone having any problems with them. Don't worry about it, just don't let it chew you.

Never sitting still to have a photo taken is another characteristic of the pseudoboines, which can drive anyone with photographic ambitions to insanity.

Cheers,

Wolfgang
