Boa-introductions....anyone got a line for the boys to use?

BOAS_N_PYTHONS Dec 14, 2004 01:45 AM

Hi there folks:

I was cleaning up some memory cards from my camera this weekend and got a few shots. Not my best work but decent. Took these photos almost purely in the dark and through plexi-glass doors.

I did not want to disturb these pairing I am trying this season. I need to get better photos without the plexi-glass next time I think. Photos were taken minutes after introduction. Can' t wait to see the tails in position.

Male Coral Albino x Female Salmon, gotta wonder what they are saying.

"Hey baby, what’s your sign......breed alot around here?"

"Hey baby where you think your going? I love the chase.....

Male Albino x Female Colombian (proven 2004).

"Let’s find a nice quite place in the dark away from Mr. Paparazzi and see if your my soul mate."

LOL, yeah yeah cheezy pick up lines.....but I never picked up a boa at the club....

Hope you all enjoyed the photos.

Cya...

How big is your male? I am interested in getting a Columbian but do not want a snake that is going to get huge. Do the males tend to stay under 8 ft?

Beautiful pair BTW . . .

Hi there:

Thank you.

These males in these photos are both 4.5 - 4.8 feet and 1.5 - 1.7 years old now. The females are 3 and 4 years old.

Colombian males tend to be around 5 - 7 feet there might be a few larger ones, but for breeding a male does not need that size. Females boas tend to be larger than males of same species.

Thanks for the response. I just love boas but do not want to get overwhelmed with too many herps right now. Currently I have a Hogg Island who is still a baby and I just adore her. I would like to get another boa (male) of another species since I am not interested in breeding.
Anyways, your pics are great! They are really entertaining me while I finish this monster of a Research Proposal (20 pages due at 4pm today. I am soooooo tired . . . but the best part is I am done after this . . . done with under-grad . . . done, done, done! Whoo hoo!

EVERYONE:

Looks like lights go out, its pitch black.......with a light sound of Barry Manilow in the background. I took my chances and peeked in tonight on them and primed the camera for dark photography. Slowly creeped up on them and flask, flash, flash, flash and flash and ran to the kitchen with some expose sex photos. This one turned out the best from dark photography through plex-glass and in a rush.......I need my paparazzi license.....

Albino x Salmon look nice but I will not get too excited till I see more of the signs that get me totally positive.

Great shots! I like watching them interact at first meeting. I have a friend's 6 year old female boa here. She has been the only snake in their household for all this time. She is the family "dog" substitute She has never been bred....never seen a male boa. It has been really fun watching her react to a male. She is more animated and reactive than any of my females have been. Recently, she started into shed and they were taking a break. I took him out and gave him a small morsel, and a couple of days rest. She "paced" back and forth and stayed at the door THE WHOLE TIME. When I would walk into the room, she would be right there, watching me. This is totally different than her "pre-boyfriend" behavior. She really acted like she was looking for him. I put him back with her, and they started back up immediately.....and she stopped looking out the door.

Good luck with your pair! May you have beautiful, healthy babies!!!
