Vision Cages for tokays? a few more q's

johndoe10688 Dec 14, 2004 05:37 AM

Are vision cages good for tokays? Is the "front door" type of cage practical for tokays? Or do you think a "top accesable cage is better? How many tokays can i fit in a vision cage that is 28"x24"x24"? I was hoping at least 1.2-1.3. Thanks

John

These cages are OK, but not what I consider perfect. The LxWxH is not ideal. The Height should be more because these are aboreal lizards and will need more climbing space instead of floor space. That being said the front opening style cages are the best for aboreal lizards. It will greatly reduce an escape because the animals will usually be hiding in the back of the enclosure if you provide hiding boxes up towards the top. They may also hide in the front above the door on these....I believe there is a space there above the glass where they will seek comfort...fyi. I made a custom cage out of coroplast for the walls, and a Home Depot Storm Window for really cheap money. I will post some pics tonight when I get a chance. It opens from the front, is easy to clean, holds heat very well, and cost about $60 to make. It is 4 ft tall, and 30W and Deep.
