Sexing pac man/pyxie frogs????

mlpetros Dec 14, 2004 11:19 AM

I know adult females get larger than males, and adult males call but is there any way to differentiate between the two as youngsters? Thanks, Mark

If I recall correctly, males have a more distinguished vocal sac than females. My male pac has this now, but I noticed it when he was a juv as well.

With pixies, I am not sure other than I have been told that the males get larger and they will have a yellowish orange around the underbelly. With pac's, males stay smaller and normally will have a darker beard on the throat as well as maybe the bigger vocal sac. If they grow rapidly and suddenly stop around 2-3 inches, you prob got a male. If they keep going you more than likely got a female. Another way is the mist test or noise test. Mist your frog with some warm water from a spray bottle and see if he chirps within a few minutes. They also will sometimes call back to some sort of loud noise, whether it be vaccuming or loud music or whatever, you get the idea. Mine did both and thats how I ound out it was male, as well as the sudden stop in growth. sorry to rattle on but hope this helps... Jon
