Pro-Zap how much do i use if i have......

mILEhIGHhERPS Dec 14, 2004 12:38 PM

I have ordered the Pro-Zap strips as suggested a few days ago on here to help prevent mites. I want to treat every cage even tho i have only seen mites in 3 cages, as i know they travel. (Thanks to the breeder who sent me the infected snake). The suggestion was to cut 1"x1" pieces and insert those into plastic film canasters with lids, that i have poked holes into. These are then placed in the cages for i think 48-72 hours. MY QUESTION IS....how many canisters do i per Boaphile cage that is 2'deep x 4' long x 12" tall? AND i also have a 40 gal breeder aquarium and a 55gal aquarium, as well as several 20 gal ones. Please help....i dont want to cause harm to my snakes (all boas and rosy boas). FOLLOWING THIS TREATMENT.....i understand that i should sprinkle 7DUST under the paper cage liners, on a weekly basis. IS THIS CORRECT? For how long do i do this? I understand from several earlier responses to mite questions, that 7DUST is not toxic to boas.....are we sure of this??? Any other suggestions are welcomed. Thanks to all of you on the forum for some great advice, information and terrific pictures!! I have learned alot from all of you and continue to do so! (pic is of my Arg female eatin dinner) susan

One can per end on any 4 footer will be enough !
leave'em in for at least a week, then replace with fresh and continue for 1 week. 14 day cycles will catch any eggs that hatch.
NO WAY IN H*LL I would use 7 dust around my snakes, but I`ll not argue that here. I know the product all to well and its bad news, although I use products that are questionable by some,I`ll stack my references from others that use Repel* against the limited few that use 7 dust.

My cages are 48"x30"x 24" , and I put a couple of small strips in perferated salsa containers - one container at each end, for around 3 weeks. I've had to do this 4 times in my reptile career. I've never needed to use other products like sevendust etc. I'd use newspaper as a substrate during this time - you'll see little dead buggers lying on it .
I've heard that mites will try to leave the cage when you use this, so I've also spayed a potent flea spray around the cages, and on some of the outer seams of the cages as well. --- Good Luck.
