Here's the whole scoop on William

I had been wanting a BP for a while now. But my fiance had always told me no. She had bought me some ribbon snakes(Which are now on the endangered species list here in WI) to sooth my need for snakes. So one night while at the pet store getting some crickets for our other reptiles, the manager asked me how the snakes were doing and told me about them being endangered. He told me that if I ever wanted to get a BP this would be the time. He took me into the back room and showed me a little BP that had been quarantined. The BP had escaped the enclosure and had burnt itself on the lights. The manager said that they couldn't sell a "damaged" animal and that it was just policy. He told me that I could have the animal for a $20 donation since he knew that I already had all the other components needed for housing a snake. My fiance came in and said that she would only let me have it if she felt comfortable with it. As you can see from the picture, she liked him.

From what I have recently been told, he is about 6 months old. He weighs in at about 270g and has no problem pounding down the live mice (he won't eat pre-killed). He has shed out of all the scars that he had from the lights and is now slithering comfortably around a much larger enclosure than when he first got here.

Now what I would like to know.... Are there any BP breeders in WI? And how big of a female should I get and when should I get her?

Also any tips and suggestions would be a great help.

Thanks
Mike

I'm in WI and I have 3 BP's. But I'm not a breeder.
Are you sure you have a boy??

I have had him probed twice now...The first time was right after he had shed. So I took him back just to make sure. The guys at Havahart here in Racine are the one's that did the probing

That's similar to how I got my first BP. He had been returned twice to the pet store he was at, for being nippy and aggressive. I got him for free. He never refused a meal, and actually calmed down a bit with time. Someone else's loss can be your gain!
Are there any burn marks on him? Hard to tell in the pic. Good luck with him

Actually he seems to have shed out of all the scars that the lights gave him. He has no scars from what I can tell.

Hey man...I live in Racine too and get all my rats, crickets, etc at Havahart also. They are really great there. I currently have 3 BP's and one recently rescued boa. He was brought in to the vet where I work as a 'stray'. I think someone just let him go so he could freeze to death because he got too big for them. (anyone want a boa, lol?) As for your WI breeder question...I know crestedgecko.com has a nice collection. I bought a veiled chameleon from them and they are very helpful and they take great care of their animals. It's nice to know there is someone so close with the same interests!! Contact me anytime.
