I used to breed my pair of desert cal kings, and my last batch really disturbed me. my female used to lay 11 or 12 eggs, and I'd have none, or maybe one rot, and the rest all hatch to lovely, shiny healthy babies. I'd then sell them as yearlings. The female is about 7 years old. well last year all the eggs went bad, except two. one died while pipping and the other came out all scrawny and kinked. I expected him to die, and here it is, more than a year later and he is still alive! hes been a good feeder, but he is still hatchling sized...even though Ive fed him one pink a week. he seems constantly dehydrated even though he always has plenty of clean water. he has jerky motions when he moves, but he is a great eater. It takes him a very VERY long time to eat even a tiny pinky, and it takes him a very long time to grab hold of it. he will lunge and miss, or hit and bounce off the first 7 or 8 tries, and I know the bouncing isnt agression and defense, because he will come flying from the other side of his cage with his mouth open; feeding response! How long do you think he will live? I dont see how such a sickly creature could live at all, but then again its been a year.
