Pregnant Snake?

MadameMedusa Dec 14, 2004 06:34 PM

Okay, I know everyone tries to breed their snakes and put them at optumal situations, temps, etc. We may have had it happen by accident. I know nothing about breeding so I need some advice:
Our male is about 2 years old and the female is a rescue so we don't know her age. We house them together all the time. She went about 6 months without eating, then all of a sudden would eat as many mice as we could give her. About a month or so ago they latched tails for a couple of days. She's been burrowing under the substrate almost constantly for weeks. So has the male, but he goes wherever she goes. She's in the middle of a shed right now and just took a good sized "poo". I just picked her up and felt her gently near the tail. I don't know what to look for; what it should feel like, but there did feel solid, rounded is the only way to explain. Is there any way to tell if she is pregnant? If she is, should be remove the male? Can we hold her while pregnant? This is all new to me so any help would be great!
Thanks!

That's a lot of questions to answer. If you're truly interested in learning about breeding, I would suggest the Ball Python Breeding Video by Dr. Mark Seward feat. The Sutherlands. It can be had at www.ballpython.com. Good luck.
