Im looking for a pair of smaller moniter species. I like ackies but they are kinda expensive. are there any other species that get that small and that are good beginger moniter species?

there are others but ackies are going to be about the cheapest with the exception of timors which arent good pets for beginners and tend to be real shy and reclusive. Yellow ackies are pretty reasonable, about 125 and up, reds are about 200 and up, not too bad, could be alot worse.

Ive only seen ackies for 250 or 300 each. Even yellows were like 250 each.

you are apparently not looking in the right spots, there have been red ackies on KS classified for the last couple days from a private breeder for 200 ea. and less if you buy in groups.
yellows as well, pairs for 250, look a little harder and you will find what you are looking for.
