sick african frog...HELP!!

ChexMix Jul 02, 2003 05:41 PM

I have an african clawed frog that something wierd happened to. Well, the other day I looked in his tank and his whole body had turned yellow and pale-ish. He almost looked albino but hes not albino. He was swimming around fine and stuff but it was wierd I dont know what would cause it. The next day I looked in and he was back to normal again except their was still a little yellow patch on his face by his mouth. He was still acting fine. About 2 days later the yellow patch turned into a little round open wound. It doesnt seem to irritate or bother him at all but it was kind of red around and in it. Now its been about 3 days and its not red around it anymore but it still looks kind of like a little round hole. His skin seems a little darker too but I'm not sure... He never seemed bothered by the sore at all. We seperated him from our new african clawed frog so if hes sick he doesnt get the other one ill. Anyone have any ideas what is wrong? Thanks.

Christ!!! Get a hold of yourself and remain calm. You probably need to change the water more often.

You need to quarantine new animals too, it probobly got something off fo the new ones.

I never put it in with the new frog yet so it couldnt have been from that.

In your initial post you stated that you separated him from the otehr one so it wouldn't get sick too. So which is it? Has it been in the same tank as the otehr one? Or have they shared water?

ChexMix Jul 02, 2003 10:43 PM

We just bought the new one recently and we have KEPT them seperate, not seperated them. They never shared water.

First of all, knot, there's no need for the tone you used. Chexmix needed help, and usually it takes a while for posts to be aswered and chexmix probably didn't want it to be answered several days later. Second of all, you sounded like the frog was disposable, and a water change will heal the wound within 2 hours. With infections, ACFs can possibly die within 2 hours and a water change won't do squat. Chexmix, it sounds like your frog has possibly an Aeromonas(spelling?) infection with the info you provided. WTF is so humorous about what you said, knot? Come to think of it, alot of what you say has been rude or total nonesense as of late. There's an old saying: "If you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all". Sorry for the rant everyone. Anyway, chexmix, I wish you luck with your wonderful loveable froggy.

laters,
Bill.
