Less active in winter?

wasabigirl Dec 15, 2004 07:59 AM

Hi there,
My uro is just less than a year old and this is the first time I've had him in winter. He's started sleeping on the cooler side of the aquarium and he doesn't come out to bask. He'll stay in that corner for days on end. I haven't changed anything lately and I'm wondering if this is normal? Should I pick him up and move him into the hotter areas so he can get some good heat?
Thanks!

Probably Scooter is fine - they can tell when winter is coming on, even if you don't change the tank environment. If you have a gram scale, check on him once or twice a week to make sure he's not losing a lot of weight. As long as he's fairly steady, I would let him be. If he's losing weight, or you feel like something else is wrong, take him to a vet.

Chances are good he's just snoozing out the winter!
