Mellers eating habits

Anthonyd Dec 15, 2004 01:33 PM

Does anyone know how much an adult Mellers eat? I know my veiled aren't nearly as big as him and they seem to eat twice as much. Do they have real large appetites or are they more moderate eaters?

A healthy adult Mellers should be eating the equivilant of
2 or 3 large roaches daily or every other day(lots of crickets). They can appear to not eat as much because they are very picky eaters. What are you feeding? I would try large roaches, horn and silkworms if you aren't already using them. Mine would only eat a couple crickets a day, and get tired of them. But as soon as I offered a giant roach or hornworm they would go crazy.

Mellers seem to eat more at some seasons than others. If it is dehydrated it won't eat as much either, and the more important need for a newly acclimating melleri is water water water. They have a pretty large body mass for a cham and once a good fat layer is present they get a bit fussy. There is some very good detailed info on melleri on the YahooGroups melleri forum. Also there is a link to good care info called The Melleri Discovery. Definitely check there, its good recent info.

I have been to melleri discovery. That is about the only good site on mellers care. Its been a life saver for me. But I ordered lobster roaches over a week ago and I still havent got confirmation on the order yet. I have emailed them again, I am starting to get frustrated. I have him feeding on the biggest crickets I can get and super and mealworms for now. I have been giving him lots of water too. I heard that is a common mistake in the care of mellers, many suffer from dehidration. He drinks lots and lots of water. Sometimes I mist him for 10 minutes and he drinks the whole time. I think I should put him in the shower for a little bit. I heard thats a simple way to give them a good 30- 60 minute hidration session as long as you are there no moniter them. but thanks for the help.
