Switching to frozen/thawed help?

silver_arctic1 Dec 15, 2004 01:44 PM

One of my baby hogs absolutely refuses to eat f/t pinkies. He'll readily take a live unscented pinky, but wont give a f/t a second sniff. I tried split braining (didn't work), haven't tried scenting the pinky yet, but I figured I shouldn't need to since he eats unscented live pinks just fine. Any tips? It's not a big issue since I can get live pinkies easily, but it's nice to have a hog that will eat anything put down on the table. Thanks in advance!

Try using a pair of tongs to mimic a pinkies movement. If that doesn't work try harassing the hog with the pinky by touching or tapping the pinky behind the snakes head and front quarter of the snakes body and watch for snakes reaction but don't scare him. Don't try scenting!

When switching to thawed, I split the thawed pinkies brain and place it inside a small or med white deli cup with the snake for a couple hours (every few days for a few weeks). My longest hold-out lasted approximately 2.5 months....today she is a ravenous thawed pinks/fuzzy feeder.

Sometimes individuals need a feeling of security to accept the frozen thawed rodents.

I usually put mine in a small plastic deli dish with a lid, but I'll try a cup next time. I'll also starve him to see if it'll work when he's really hungry. Thanks for the tips!
