BABY HOGNOSES>>>mouse-tails did the trick...

cv768 Dec 15, 2004 06:51 PM

I clipped a few hopper tails and they slipped easily into the both the snakes mouths...then they did the rest of the work...whoever e-mailed me to let me know about this easy and much much less stressful idea...thank you.

Anyway, I figure as long as I keep giving them mousetails every 10 days and keep trying pinkies every 5 days they should come around.

Thanks for the help everyone.

or maybe someone else did? I was the first or at least one of the first to use mouse tails with Heterodon. I borrowed this idea from my temporalis friends who use them on their skinny baby snakes.

It is also a common practice to feed mouse tails to neonate palm pit-vipers .

Well, either way it's easy, seems relatively stress free on the snakes and it'll keep them alive until they eat on their own.

Thanks.

A.C. how are your simus doing?? At least mine are on f/t toad scented, but that should work out eventually to unscented.
So you were the first, huh?

Great to hear on the baby simus. I put my babies down as their feeding tapered, and I didn't want them to lose weight. I 'm only going to keep them down for a few weeks.

yES, as far as I know, I was the 1st to use mouse tails with Heterodon. The temporalis people got me on it when I started buying lots of coastal plains.

Were you using this method on baby hogs?

yo...we were using mouse tails..thighs...drumsticks...with all reluctant baby snakes of ALL species back in the '60 &'70s...then came the pinkie pump.....etc.........scented mice with frogs, toads, fish guts, chicken broth,....anything to elict a feeding response....we didn't have the lines of communication you youngsters have now...............................
