>>>We keep ours on 12 hours light cycles. I don't think there is such a thing as too much because the chameleon will move in and out of the uv light as it sees fit...just as long as you have it on a proper night/day cycle it should be fine...and you also should try to refrain from supplementing with any supplements containin vitamin d3 because you chameleon should get it from the light.

also i was wondering if holding them at this age is a lot of stress on them. he dosent seem to mad wen i take him out. How much is to Much holding.

>>>You probably shouldn't hold him too much...chameleons aren't really holding animals and don't especially enjoy petting and whatnot...I'd say if you have to take him out...15 minutes is good per day. We just leave ours alone...occasionally we'll con one out of the cage to clean the flies from the room...we benefit from no flies and they benefit with a full belly.

and last how long befor i start seing some nicer colors on him. Any advice or imput would be greatly apreciated and help me out a bunch.

>>>Chameleons generally grow fast...if it is a "HE" then colours should show up at 8 months of age...if it's a "she" don't expect too much colouration.

Enjoy your chameleon.

I have to disagree with your comment about vitamin D3. If you are keeping a cham under artificial UV light you MUST use a mineral dust that contains D3! Some D3 is generated by the cham when it is exposed to UV light, but not all. Most if not all cham species must have some D3 supplied in their captive diet to properly metabolize calcium. This is a complicated subject and it is easy to unintentionally mislead a new keeper. For a very good discussion on herp nutrition including D3 and calcium metabolism, read the nutritional articles at http://www.herpnutrition.com

Also, to give you good keeping info you can read the articles on http://www.chameleonnews.com, http://www.chameleonjournals.com, and http://www.adcham.com
