GreggMM Dec 15, 2004 07:31 PM

Found this unfortunate pic somewhere..... See what money can do..... It is a shame..... The king would have been fine if it had been left intact..... Is it really worth it????

Does anyone know if a venomoid (gag) has to be shipped Delta, or can it be shipped UPS? The reason I'm asking is probably apparent, so don't jump to conclusions before doing the math please.

Venomoids are legally considered venomous, and must be shipped via airline cargo.

Some unscrupulous dealers though ignore this little legal tidbit and ship through mail carriers...I think we all know of one culprit...

A very disturbing picture. How anybody could look at that and not feel any compassion and support this is beyond my understanding.

How could anyone be so stupid as to have this snake 2 weeks and not see those stiches ?I mean ,lets call a spade a spade !

cricketscritters Dec 17, 2004 03:57 AM

I'll tell you how. FYI, any time I get a new snake, for the first couple weeks I don't try to do anything with it. Proper housing & water, that's it. Shipping & a new surrounding can be very stressful. It's best to give them time to adjust before any type of handling is attempted. You can't exactly play with a cobra hiding in the hidebox, now can you? And I'm sure Hammer didn't just reach into the bag & pull it out with his bare hands to give the snake an overall inspection. He did what he was supposed to do by leaving it alone & letting it acclimate.
Come on, get real. He was not only sold a sick snake, but one that had been butchered. Definitely not what he paid for!

Cricket

You have to forgive his intelligence, Cricket. He's one of the venomoiders, so he's used to seeing stitches.

luvthemherps Dec 17, 2004 10:28 PM

Yes I do like "venomoids".I currently own 3.I deal with the store in question for all my feeders, and know all the guys there.I have also been in the store on at least one occasion when "Cricket"was there buying. The only reason you all want to jump on this dealer is over his "venomoids".Time to grow up guys.
As I have seen on the classifieds here and elsewhere, more and more venomoid dealers are poping up ,and I think that trend will continue, like it or not, they look like they are here to stay.
My point was ,when I get a snake in,I observe it ,be sure its drinking,Dang ! those sutures are bright Green ,and huge, how do you buy something and not look at it for 2 weeks !this wasnt a tiny infection this was a HUGE ROW OF STICHES ON BOTH SIDES OF THE FACE !
I dont know,I havent been in to talk to them about this, but Im sure either Mark,or one of them will take care of it and make good.
you seem like a bunch of vultures ,just looking to jump on someone.these "forums"were made to help and give us a place to talk about our hobby, you folks just want to fight.
Time to pull together, and stop fighting, help eachother,or our hobby is doomed !

cricketscritters Dec 18, 2004 06:21 AM

I've only been there once(over a year ago.). And yes, I purchased a puff adder & pair of canebrake rattlers. I had to treat the puff for mites, and he guaranteed the canebrakes as feeding. I lost the female within a week. The sand vipers I had with me were already mine. I wanted a 100% identification on the species. I bought them somewhere else as one thing, but was being told by others that they were something else.
So, there you have it.

One thing you need to remember there luvthemherps, we are not in the hobby of mutilating snakes or supporting the ones that do...... That is your hobby..... Venomoid keepers are not part of the VENOMOUS hobby..... Venomoiders are the "black eye" of our hobby...... Pretty soon you voiders will not have anyone to get your "fix" from...... Voiding is on its way out..... Especially now that officials are getting involved.....

How did the idiots that PUT THE SNAKE IN THE BOX miss them? You try to defend the dealer with this crap.....but the fact is, everything you've said could be turned around on the DEALER and multiplied by 100,000 times. How on EARTH did this snake get sold in the first place? ITS FRESH FROM SURGERY!!! How did it get confused with a HOT?!?!?!? Do they not keeps their kings separate? Do they have that much disorganization that this king was shipped to the wrong person?!?! In any case, it is COMPLETELY the dealers fault, and they owe their customer. It all comes down to responsibility, something the dealer obviously does NOT have.

I talked to the guy I dealt with on the original purchase yesterday. Trying to be as objective as possible, this is where it stands now. He said he'd make good on the purchase. Right now, I believe he will. We did not get into a heated dicusion on the condition of the animal or anything like that. I think venomoids are such a large part of his business that he shipped me the wrong snake in error.

Anyway, he is trying to work things out, so let's see how it goes.

luvthemherps Dec 19, 2004 12:06 AM

How do you undo the damage this may or may not have caused the dealer ?you have badmouthed him on at least 4 different forums, how does that work ? Id tell you to go jump in the lake !
Realy its between you two,but you certanly havent been fair to him in any way! The people around here in the hobby, love him,You say he seems to be a decent guy,WERE YOU?

Chance Dec 19, 2004 01:24 AM

>>The people around here in the hobby, love him

I'm sorry, but after that little tidbit I couldn't help but reply, though I really was going to stay clear of this one. It's obvious from the responces here and on the various other boards this situation has been posted on that actaully *not many people at all* like this dealer. In fact, he has evidently scammed quite a few people in the recent past. All one has to do is check a particulary inquiry-based board for information partaining to him. So now, do you still maintain that the people in this hobby love him?

to read the email that was sent to him BY THE DEALER? Before it was deleted from the forums? Maybe he can be kind enough to email it to you so you can see where all of this stemmed from. It basically told him to "jump in a lake", before anyone even knew who the dealer was. The dealer made his own bed, I hope he has a comfortable pillow while he's lying on it.

cricketscritters Dec 19, 2004 07:09 AM

Sounds like he realized his mistake wouldn't go unnoticed. He's surely been made aware of all the bad publicity. And only now is he ready to rectify the situation. If he'd been willing to work out a solution to the problem when Hammer tried to contact him, perhaps his name wouldn't have gotten so badly smeared. I don't think Hammers' situation would have resolved without these forums. Word of mouth goes a long way. And when it's all bad, you have to cut your losses and pay up.

None of your comments are in my post above. They are your conclusions. I'm only providing a status on the business end, not commentary on the ethics or other aspects of the situation. There are many issues involved. In terms of the business end, he said he'd make it right. That's all I'm addressing and I trust he'll keep his word.
